Youth Experiences Intern

Description

SJCPL Youth Services department is looking for a creative, enthusiastic, and self-motivated person to help develop summer experiences for youth and their families. These may include crafts, storywalks, STEAM challenges, and much more. As our intern, you will assist with our annual Summer Reading Club and other youth-focused initiatives, as well as have the chance to develop your own engaging activities in the Youth Services space. You will have the opportunity to gain experience working with the library’s youngest patrons.

A job at SJCPL is a chance to give back to the community while also gaining real life experience in a dynamic and challenging environment. People who work at a Library are committed to public service (and also get to spend their day surrounded by books).

This position is 40 hours per week and pays $14.56 per hour. Review of applications will begin March 4th and continue until the position is filled.

Responsibilities

Once here you will:

• Help promote SJCPL’s Summer Reading Club and other youth initiatives.
• Assist with library experiences for youth and teen patrons.
• Develop and implement creative pop-up activities for youth and teen patrons.
• Become familiar with literature, materials, resources, and library services for children and teens.
• Assist staff at the Youth Services desk, directing patrons to materials and services.
• Attend department meetings and collaborate with colleagues.
• Support department staff in daily operations.

Qualifications

Relevant experience:

• Passionate about working with children
• Experience working with youth and their caregivers is preferred
• Comfortable using Internet, Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and Windows and Mac OS
• Community-minded
• Exercise initiative, be enthusiastic, creative, flexible, energetic, value diversity, and possess a sense of humor
• Bilingual (Spanish) preferred
