Family Promise is the leading national organization addressing family homelessness through our community-based response.  Our holistic approach to this crisis—homelessness prevention initiatives, shelter and case management, and stabilization programs—empowers the families we serve to achieve sustainable independence. Family Promise of Greater Lafayette, Inc. (FPGL) is dedicated to keeping families experiencing homelessness together as a unit, providing temporary shelter and services, in the hope of helping them to achieve sustainable independence.

Position Summary

Position Overview:

We are seeking a Communication and Donor Strategy Intern to join our team. This position offers a unique opportunity to work directly with the Executive Director in crafting strategic communications to engage with stakeholders, including donors, service-providing agencies, prospective clients, and other external audiences. The intern will play a key role in researching relevant data, creating content for various platforms, qualifying donors based on publicly available information, and gaining hands-on experience in general nonprofit management.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Communication:

    • Assist the Executive Director in developing and implementing communication strategies.
    • Draft and edit letters, emails, newsletters, and other correspondence to stakeholders.
    • Ensure consistent messaging and branding across all communications.
  • Content Creation:

    • Create engaging content for social media platforms, including Facebook and LinkedIn.
    • Develop and schedule posts, monitor engagement, and respond to comments and messages.
    • Assist in creating content for the organization’s website and potentially blog.
  • Donor Qualification and Research:

    • Research and compile information on prospective donors using publicly available sources.
    • Assist in identifying potential donors and preparing donor profiles.
    • Maintain and update donor databases.
  • Stakeholder Engagement:

    • Support the planning and execution of donor and stakeholder events.
    • Assist in preparing materials and presentations for meetings with donors and stakeholders.
    • Help manage donor recognition and appreciation efforts.
  • Nonprofit Management:

    • Gain exposure to various aspects of nonprofit management, including fundraising, program development, and community outreach.
    • Participate in staff meetings and contribute ideas for organizational improvement.
    • Assist with administrative tasks as needed.

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Communications, Marketing, Nonprofit Management, Public Administration or a related field.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in using social media platforms and creating content.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and GSuite (Google).
  • Experience with graphic design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite) is a plus.
  • Passion for nonprofit work, homeless services. and community service.
