Founded in 2017 by artist and graphic designer Rockland Page, ROCKaBLOCK is a lifestyle brand that creates inspiring products for inspired people. Our collection of apparel and accessories celebrates the richness and depth of Black culture through thought-provoking design.

Rockland Page started ROCKaBLOCK from the basement of his home in Northwest Indiana. With a background designing for iconic publications like Ebony, Jet Magazines, and the Chicago Tribune, Rockland sought more from his career than just a paycheck. His passion for storytelling through design led him to create unique T-shirts that quickly gained traction, turning a creative outlet into a thriving business. With a growing customer base across Indiana and Chicagoland, he opened ROCKaBLOCK's first brick-and-mortar store in Merrillville, IN.

Today, ROCKaBLOCK is making waves nationwide, with orders shipped to over 30 states and features on Chicago's major media outlets, including ABC7 Chicago Morning News, NBC5 Chicago, and WGN's Daytime Chicago. We’re also expanding our footprint with our new location in Indianapolis! Our customers value our unique designs and our mission to highlight racial equity and preserve our history.

About the Role: We are looking for a passionate and creative Marketing Intern to join our team! This role is perfect for someone who loves to communicate big ideas to big audiences, whether through social media, traditional marketing channels, or direct customer engagement. As a Marketing Intern at ROCKaBLOCK, you will be at the heart of our brand's storytelling and growth efforts. You will help us connect with our audience, promote our mission, and support our clients in a meaningful way.

What You’ll Do:

  • Assist in developing and executing engaging social media campaigns that reflect our brand’s voice and mission.
  • Create content that resonates with our audience across various platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and Twitter.
  • Compose email and SMS campaigns
  • Support the planning and execution of events, promotions, and community outreach efforts, including at our new Indianapolis location.
  • Collaborate with our team to brainstorm and develop new marketing strategies.
  • Assist clients with orders, ensuring a smooth and positive experience that reflects the ROCKaBLOCK brand.
  • Track and analyze marketing metrics to identify trends and opportunities for growth.

Responsibilities

  • Content Creation and Copywriting: Write blog posts, website content, and product descriptions that reflect ROCKaBLOCK’s voice and mission. Assist in creating graphics, videos, and other multimedia content for various platforms.

  • Market Research and Analysis: Conduct research on market trends, competitors, and customer preferences to help shape marketing strategies. Analyze customer feedback and engagement metrics to optimize campaigns.

  • Community Engagement: Engage with the ROCKaBLOCK community both online and offline. Respond to comments and messages on social media, manage community groups, and foster positive relationships with followers and brand advocates.

  • SEO and Website Management: Assist in optimizing the ROCKaBLOCK website for search engines (SEO) by updating keywords, meta descriptions, and other SEO-related tasks. Ensure website content is current and aligned with ongoing marketing campaigns.

  • Email Marketing Campaigns: Assist in creating, managing, and analyzing email marketing campaigns to drive engagement and sales. Develop segmented email lists and personalized messaging to increase open and click-through rates.

  • Partnership Outreach: Identify and reach out to potential partners, influencers, or collaborators who align with ROCKaBLOCK's brand values. Assist in managing relationships with current partners and influencers.

  • Customer Experience and Feedback: Gather and analyze customer feedback to improve the overall shopping experience. Develop customer surveys, manage online reviews, and assist in resolving customer service inquiries.

  • Sales Support: Assist in creating sales materials such as brochures, flyers, and presentations for potential retail and wholesale partners. Help manage promotional campaigns to drive both in-store and online sales.

  • Analytics and Reporting: Track the performance of marketing campaigns and provide reports to measure effectiveness and ROI. Use tools like Google Analytics, social media insights, and email marketing software to assess progress.

  • Merchandising Support: Assist with visual merchandising both in-store and online to ensure products are presented attractively and effectively.

Qualifications

  • Basic Graphic Design Skills: Familiarity with design tools like Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator) or Canva to create eye-catching social media graphics, marketing materials, and content.

  • Knowledge of Digital Marketing Tools: Experience or familiarity with tools such as Google Analytics, Hootsuite, Buffer, or Mailchimp for managing social media, email marketing, and analyzing digital marketing performance.

  • Understanding of Marketing Fundamentals: A basic understanding of marketing principles, including branding, market segmentation, customer personas, and positioning.

  • Research and Analytical Skills: Ability to conduct market research, analyze data, and provide actionable insights for content, campaigns, and customer engagement strategies.

  • Project Management Skills: Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines efficiently. Familiarity with project management tools like Trello, Asana, or Monday.com is a plus.

  • Creative Thinking and Problem-Solving Skills: A knack for generating innovative ideas for content, campaigns, and events, along with a proactive approach to problem-solving.

  • Strong Interpersonal and Communication Skills: Ability to communicate effectively with team members, customers, and potential partners. Comfortable with public speaking or presenting ideas in meetings.

  • Adaptability and Willingness to Learn: Eager to learn about new tools, techniques, and trends in marketing. Must be flexible and adaptable to the fast-paced nature of a growing business.

  • Experience with Video Content Creation: Familiarity with basic video editing software and techniques to create engaging video content for platforms like Instagram Reels, TikTok, and YouTube.

  • Customer-Centric Mindset: A genuine interest in understanding customer needs, behaviors, and how to effectively engage with them to build a strong brand community.
