Basic Functions and Scope of Responsibility
This internship provides a hands-on experience for individuals pursuing a career in health and wellness, offering exposure to various aspects of program development, fitness assessment, and community engagement.

Responsibilities
- Reporting to the Wellness Director, the Wellness Intern will work closely with the wellness team to support the planning, coordination, and execution of fitness and wellness programs, group exercise classes and personal training.
- This internship provides a hands-on experience for individuals with interest in pursuing a career in health and wellness, offering exposure to various aspects of program development, fitness assessment, and community engagement.
- Assist in wellness and member engagement program development by collaborating with the wellness team to create and implement fitness programs that cater to diverse age groups and fitness levels.
- Collect data on program participation and member feedback and assist in analyzing the effectiveness of the wellness program, along with the becoming familiar with the annual budget for operating new and existing programs.
- Work with marketing for brochures, flyers, social media, and other marketing efforts to support program growth and sustainability.
- Gain knowledge by participating and observing in all aspects of the new member orientation process.
- Shadow Personal Training, Small Group Training, and Group Exercise classes as necessary.
- Gain knowledge of day-to-day maintenance of a clean, safe and friendly wellness floor.
- Learn how to create a positive member experience.
Qualifications
Qualifications
- Interest in pursuing a degree in exercise science, kinesiology, health promotion, or related field
- Must possess a passion for promoting health and well-being in the community
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Must poses good organizational skills and be proficient in multitasking
- Basic knowledge of fitness principles and exercise techniques
- Ability to work independently and in a group setting
- Ability to work in a dynamic and diverse environment
- CPR and First Aid certifications within the first 30 days of employment
- Meet the YMCA's screening standards including background screening
- Complete YMCA New Employee Orientation
- Complete Y-USA Wellness Trainings as necessary
- Must be legally eligible to work in the US without current or future sponsorship
