Transportation Engineering Assistant Summer 2025 - High School
Description
Yarger Engineering, Inc. has an opening for the summer of 2024 for a transportation engineering assistant in Indianapolis. The position is an undergraduate internship opportunity for hands-on entry level experience for the future civil engineer. The engineering assistant is expected to learn as much as they produce.
Yarger Engineering is a very small firm, so the engineering assistant would be working directly for Mr. Yarger, the president and owner. The work environment is casual and flexible, but final work products are expected to be first rate. Innovation and more efficient methods are encouraged.
The ideal candidate should be smart, productive, inquisitive, open to new ideas and eager to learn.
Responsibilities
The work would primarily be preparing traffic impact studies and designing roads. Traffic impact studies are comprised of data collection, traffic forecasts, analysis, alternative solutions development, report writing and creating report figures. Road plans consist primarily of typical sections, alignments, profiles and cross sections, along with detail sheets for signals, signs, markings and miscellaneous items. There may be field work setting out traffic counting equipment, collecting on-site traffic counts and taking field measurements. The exact scope of work would depend on the candidate's knowledge and ability.
Qualifications
The candidate should be interested in pursuing civil engineering or a related field in college, be proficient in math, science and Engish, have the ability to work outside and carry 25 lbs. across rough terrain in inclement weather, have a current driver's license, and pass a Federal I-9 background check for having the approval to work in the United States. A working knowledge of plain AutoCAD or Civil 3D are a preferred qualification. Other CAD packages (Inventor, Fusion, etc.) will not be considered as equal.
