A service technician intern will perform basic maintenance functions while working closely with an assigned mentor and manager to develop skills, execute accurate repairs and contribute to service department profitability. They will continuously be evaluated by their mentor, service manager, and high school intructors. Our hope for the service interns is that they learn the basic skills to elevate them to an apprentice service technician position once they have completed their required high school courses and graduated. 

Responsibilities

  • Receive repair orders and take vehicle to and from assigned work areas.
  • Responsible for assisting the assigned mentor with making correct repairs the first time.
  • Perform work as outlined on the repair order with efficiency and accuracy.
  • Perform work in accordance with dealership and factory standards.
  • Diagnose cause of any malfunction and perform repair.
  • Communicate with parts department to obtain needed parts.
  • Save and tag parts if the job is under warranty or if requested by customer.
  • Examine vehicle to determine if additional safety or service work is needed.
  • Advise trainer if additional work is needed or if repairs cannot be completed within the time promised.
  • Maintain cleanliness of customer’s car.
  • Keep shop area neat and clean.
  • Responsible for all dealership tools and their maintenance.
  • Understand and follow federal, state and local regulations as to the disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Complete manufacturer online training as directed. 
  • Keep abreast of all factory technical bulletins. 
  • Collaborate with mentor to develop targeted skills. 
  • Establish and maintain a good working relationship within service department and with other departments to reduce conflict and maintain dealer profitability. 
  • Assist service advisors or others to resolve customer complaints. 

Qualifications

Working towards a High School diploma or the equivalent.  Ability to read and comprehend instructions and information. Valid driver’s license and good driving record.  Excellent communication skills.  Some experience and vocational training preferred.
