BIM/VDC Detailer Intern
Description
FUSED is an Indiana-based Building Information Modelling (BIM) and education company offering services to Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) contractors across the U.S. FUSED employs tradesmen detailers that have completed apprenticeship programs in their respective fields. These detailers design piping, ductwork, and electrical systems that meet building codes and follow best practices for commercial, industrial, and institutional contstruction projects. FUSED internships bring interns into current projects alongside journeymen detailers to get hands-on experience creating drawings, detailing systems, and being a part of the BIM coordination processes. Our goal is for our interns to become profficient with detailing software, understand the systems that they are detailing and their complexities, and gain learnings on construction design principles and practices.
Responsibilities
FUSED interns work to create, annotate, and quality assure and control Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) installation drawings. They work to include all of the necessary design elements from the contract drawings and are clean, tidy drawings that field construction teams are able to utilize to install the systems efficiently. FUSED interns get real-life experience as part of coordination teams with contractors and the FUSED design team. Through these meetings, interns work with the team to identify issues that will prevent field installation and work through with the other MEP teams to create a model that is free of clashes. FUSED interns also communicate, with coaching from FUSED designers, with the project managers and field foremen to ensure that our deliverables meet their organizations' standards.
