Description
Randolph Eastern School Corporation is seeking a high school intern to assist in the Transportation and Maintenance Department. The position is a good opportunity to learn and gain experience in the transportation and maintenance department. The ideal candidate is a student who has a basic knowledge of electrical and mechanical work, a strong work ethic, an appreciation for details and management systems, and good communication skills.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities for Transportation and Maintenance Intern
- Assist with electrical work, including running wires and installing or repairing actuators, fans, blowers, outlets, lights, and other components.
- Support the maintenance and servicing of machinery and vehicles including: buses, cars, tractors, mowers, and utility vehicles (e.g., Gator).
- Perform routine vehicle checks and basic repairs under supervision.
- Assist in troubleshooting mechanical and electrical issues in vehicles, HVAC and other equipment.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
- Help with routine inspections to ensure vehicles and equipment meet safety and operational standards.
- Learn and adhere to safety protocols and procedures in all tasks.
- Assist with inventory management for parts, tools, and supplies.
- Support the completion of ongoing maintenance projects and other department initiatives.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Transportation and Maintenance Supervisor.
Qualifications
Qualifications for Transportation and Maintenance Intern
- Basic knowledge or interest in mechanics, electrical systems, or automotive maintenance.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a willingness to learn.
- Ability to follow instructions and complete tasks with attention to detail.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and excellent attendance.
- Comfortable using basic tools (e.g., wrenches, screwdrivers, pliers) and learning to use specialized equipment.
- Ability to communicate in a clear, concise, respectful, and diplomatic manner.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and work within a team environment or as an individual.
- Awareness of safety practices and a commitment to following safety guidelines.
- Ability to manage time effectively and work on multiple tasks.
- Physical ability to perform tasks such as lifting, bending, and working in various environments (e.g., indoors, outdoors, under vehicles).
- Interest in gaining hands-on experience in transportation and maintenance fields.
- Must be able to function within a moderate noise level environment.
