Description

The Tom Hirons Internship, offered every summer, is available for an Indiana University Media School student. This internship program is made possible in partnership with the IU Media School and honors Tom Hirons, founder of Hirons. Candidates for this position could be placed in the communications management, media or digital departments, depending interest and experience. 

To be considered, applicants must be a current sophomore, junior, senior, master’s student or recent graduate in good academic standing with the IU Media School. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter, organized, resourceful and an efficient communicator, with close attention to detail and grammar.

Preferred majors include: Public Relations, Marketing, Digital Media, Advertising and Journalism.

This is a paid position; the ideal candidate has availability of 40 hours per week. Applications will close Feb. 28.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities could include the following:

  • Assist with the preparation of client meeting materials, including agendas, presentations and marketing collateral
  • Monitor news outlets for mentions of clients through Meltwater
  • Prepare agendas and conference reports for internal and external meetings
  • Assist in the creation of stakeholder databases
  • Attend and participate in client calls and meetings
  • Assist with the development of Hirons’ social media calendar and promotional materials
  • Draft and prepare media relations materials related to client announcements
  • Assist with the development of organic and paid social copy for clients

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Microsoft Office skills required: Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Must be comfortable working proactively and leading projects
  • Knowledge of various social media platforms and best practices
  • Understanding of strategic marketing and overall brand building
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Agency experience and Google Analytic certification is a plus, but not required
