Position Summary

The job is based in Lafayette, IN but we would also consider hybrid applicants.  This is an internship, reporting to the Engineering Manager. Days and hours of work are generally Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. but is flexible based on need. Travel will not be typical for this position.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

• Create and modify detailed mechanical drawings and schematics using industry-standard CAD software.
• Create and modify drawings to illustrate mechanical assembly of devices.
• Collaborate with the engineering team to interpret technical specifications and design requirements.
• Assist in the development and modification of 2D drawings and 3D models for various mechanical components and assemblies.
• Conduct quality checks to ensure accuracy, completeness, and adherence to design standards.
• Communicate effectively with team members to gather input and feedback for drawing revisions.
• Support the documentation process by organizing and maintaining drawing files and records.

Qualifications

Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Attributes)

Preferred Experience

• Currently enrolled in a relevant degree program (Mechanical Engineering, Drafting, etc.).
• Proficiency in CAD software (preferably AutoCAD and SolidWorks)
• Strong attention to detail and a passion for precision in mechanical drawings.
• Basic understanding of engineering principles and technical specifications.
• Effective communication and collaboration skills within a team environment.
• Eagerness to learn and apply new skills in a practical setting.

Physical Requirements

• Use of hands or fingers to handle objects, tools or controls
• Frequently able to sit, stand, walk, reach with arms and hands
• May need to occasionally climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
• Able to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds
• Specific vision requirements for this role – close vision, distance vision, ,peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus
• The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
