Description

What will Student Learn: Student will have the opportunity to help the Town with special events, social media, grant writing, research, and event management. Student will be able to get hands on experience, network with local elected officials, and create a project that could impact the Town for years to come. Since the Town has a small staff, the ability to interact with multiple departments will be possible but the focus will be on helping grow Town Events. Direct supervision will be provided by the Town Manager. 

Town of Georgetown: Georgetown is a small but developing Town in Floyd County. The goals of the Town are to continue to better serve the community and prepare the community for its future growth. The Town is overseen by 5 Town Council Members and currently has 11 staff members.

Responsibilities

Event Coordination:

  • Intern will help plan, create marketing materials, and host a variety of special events.
  • Intern will help coordinate Town Softball Leagues.
  • Intern will have a chance for a large capstone project that will benefit the Town for future generations (capstone topic and project must be approved and overseen by Town Manager).
  • Intern will help prepare the park for different events and leagues. This may include setting up tables, cleaning/tear down, and more. Intern may also help prepare the softball diamond and mow grass at the park before the event.

Social Media:

  • Intern will work to expand the Town’s social media presence and create social media content.

Writing / Research:

  • Intern will help find, research, and write grants for Town projects or programs.
  • Intern will research other municipality ordinances/resolutions.

Organization / Public Speaking:

  • Intern will help set up for Town Council Meetings and will give a presentation during two of the meetings on the projects that are being worked on/items completed.

Qualifications

Intern must be a current college student and registered with EARN Indiana.
