Description

Home Care of Indiana is seeking a motivated and compassionate “Assistant Director in Training – Intern” to learn and support the operations of our Developmental Disabilities Services Program under the Bureau of Developmental Disabilities Services (BDDS). This internship offers a unique hands-on opportunity to gain real-world leadership experience in the home and community-based care industry, with exposure to regulatory compliance, staff supervision, and client-centered service delivery.

The Director in Training will shadow and support the BDS Director and leadership team while learning the skills needed to potentially step into a leadership role in the future.

Responsibilities

- Program Management & Compliance 

  - Assist with tracking program documentation and preparing for audits and quality assurance reviews. 

  - Observe and support leadership in managing care teams, including direct support professionals and program managers. 

  - Understand the dynamics of staff scheduling, training, and compliance monitoring.

- Client Coordination & Advocacy

  - Attend family and team meetings to observe person-centered planning in action. 

  - Support data entry, record management, and reporting activities. 

  - Gain experience in planning, workflow organization, and problem-solving.

 

Qualifications

- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a program in one of the following fields (Associate’s or Bachelor’s): 

  - Psychology 

  - Public Health 

  - Education 

 

- Strong written and verbal communication skills 

- Organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage time independently 

- Eagerness to learn about regulatory and compliance frameworks (BDDS, Medicaid Waiver, etc.) 

 

- Demonstrates empathy, compassion, and a person-first mindset 

- Self-motivated and open to constructive feedback 

 

- Experience working or volunteering with individuals with disabilities 

- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel locally 

- CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain it
