Description
The summer Lab Technician Intern is a position in the quality control laboratory for Living Essentials, the creators of 5-hour ENERGY. This roll will introduce the student to an industry-based position in the food and dietary supplement world using validated methods to test finished products and raw materials using the latest industry laboratory equipment. This internship program will give the candidate the opportunity to learn industry laboratory systems that are compliant with the FDA Code of Federal Regulations, 21 CFR 1110,111 & 117. The intern will gain a breadth of understanding of United States Pharmacopeia and Food Chemical Codex and how it is used for remaining compliant. The intern will be supervised by senior lab personnel, lab supervisor, lab management, and experienced analytical chemists. There will be a 30, 60, and 90 day check-in with different leaders including Assistant Plant Manager, HR, and General Manager.
Responsibilities
Run, maintain, and calibrate analytical equipment, which includes HPLC, ICP-MS, FT-IR, UV/VIS Spectrophotometer, pH meter, balances, and other equipment.
Support the physical, qualitative, and quantitative chemical testing of products/components.
Sampling of raw materials.
Support activities related to the monitoring of RO water systems.
Maintain cGMP requirements in the laboratory using regulations 21CFR111 and available industry
guidance.
Accurately records, reviews and verifies results using Good Documentation Practices
Maintain a laboratory environment that is clean, orderly and safe by following proper Living
Essentials policies, procedures and techniques
Qualifications
Earning towards a Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or related science.
University laboratory experience preferred.
Excellent organizational and planning skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Must have a basic understanding of scientific principles. Experience with standard laboratory equipment such as pipettes, burets, balances, and pH meters.
Strong computer and documentation skills.
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to interpret miscellaneous drawings and schematics.
