When I was younger, I went through phases where I would change my mind about what career I wanted. I had dreams of becoming a hair stylist, chef, nurse, teacher – you name it, I wanted to be it. However, once I got to college, I had absolutely no idea what I wanted to do.
I went with the “undecided” route during my first semester of college to try to figure out what the heck I wanted to do with the rest of my life. I first decided to try out interior design, mainly because I liked the idea of being able to decorate my own house for free. Once enrolled in one interior design class, I realized that this was not for me. Not knowing what direction to take, I began to feel overwhelmed. How was I supposed to figure out what I wanted to do for the rest of my life in a 20 minute meeting with an advisor? After talking with my advisor about my passions and what I enjoy doing, I realized that PR was the route that I should take. After one PR class, I was hooked.
I went through this same frustration while looking for a job. After applying to a gazillion and two jobs and not getting any phone calls, the pressure begins to take its toll. Though I was worn down from all of my efforts not being recognized, I still trucked on to find my place at my current position, which I love. In the end I learned to just give it time. Your amazingly perfect job is waiting for you; you just need to find it.
