Follow these internship tips in the style of the lovable twin from Full House and âyouâve got it, dude!â
When youâre parked in a three hour parking spot outside your internship and youâve almost passed the limit.
Parking can be a difficult task, especially in a downtown location. It can also be expensive if your internship doesnât offer a parking allowance. Before you spend hundreds of dollars in garage parking, research alternative options. You may have a longer distance to walk, but it could save you more money in the long run.
Sometimes you might complete a project at your internship that youâre uncertain about.
Internships can be intimating at times. You want to impress your supervisor, but on the other hand youâre still learning the ropes. If an assignment is unclear, ask questions! Itâs better to ask questions than wasting time completing an assignment thatâs incorrect. Remember, internships are a way of learning and questions should be encouraged.
The very disappointing amount of social life you have.
Balancing your school, internship and personal life is challenging. The best method to manage your time and deadlines is to use a planner. You can buy one, make your own, or use an app on your phone. There are plenty of options, some the apps are even free!
I have tried all three options and have never decided a preference. I have a physical planner that has all of my school assignments and class activities written in it. However, I utilize Google Calendar as well. I have scheduled the times Iâm in class and my internship, school deadlines, and personal events. Google Calendar also has the option for creating Tasks, which helps me figure what I need to do this week.
You may not have much time to eat let alone go to the gym. Sometimes the temptation is too intense.
Itâs a real struggle to eat healthy and workout when you have a busy schedule. If you have back-to-back classes and then have your internship after, it may be difficult to find the time to eat and exercise. The best method to combat this issue is to plan ahead. On Sundays, prepare your meals for the week and actually take them with you to school/internship. Also, it helps to schedule your workouts and write it in your planner.
When your professor says class might end early today.
When you suddenly have 30 minutes of time free up can be exciting! As tempting as it is to use that time to watch an episode of How I Met Your Mother, you should try to be productive. If you have a project thatâs due the next day, 30 minutes can be better than pulling an all-nighter.
Most classes and internship hours are during the daytime, which leaves little time to study. This could mean pulling a few all-night study sessions.
Sleep is a very important part of life, but an exam thatâs worth 40% of your grade may seem more pertinent. People have different study time preferences, some prefer the afternoon while others prefer to study when itâs dark outside. Your planner will be the best tool to find time to study. If you have to sacrifice sleep, be safe about it. Donât pull all-nighters three nights in a row and rely on caffeine to stay awake. Take a nap during the day and stick to a responsible amount of coffee.
When the last day of class and internship arrives, you are out of there (unless they hired you full-time)!
Congratulations, you survived balancing school and an internship! This feeling is even better if itâs your last semester and are graduating. Remember to leave your internship on a positive note. Donât leave a big mess for your mentor to clean up once youâve left and be sure to send thank-you cards. You may need a recommendation from the people youâve worked with someday, so remain on good terms.
