Summer is finally here!
For students, this time of year calls for vacations, sun burn and poolside fun, not to mention a luxurious break from classrooms and exams.
Summertime is also the perfect time to dive into the workforce and build professional and personal skills. This summer, I chose to pursue a marketing internship with Indiana INTERNnet. I recently graduated from The Media School at Indiana University with a Bachelorās degree in Telecommunications. With the help of IUās amazing career services, every summer since I was a freshman IĀ have beenĀ fortunate to have internships in Indianapolis with some great employers.
Throughout my collegiate experience at IU, I used every summer to my advantage. I was a summer camp counselor as a freshman, an intern at the Indy Hostel as a sophomore and a marketing and promotions intern forĀ Do317 as a junior. Even though some opportunities might not have been the most financially rewarding, personally they allowed me to grow into a more conscious and cultured young professional.
These internshipsĀ also served as some of the most unique, enjoyable and FUN experiences of my life! I got the chance to help little kids learn to swim, hosted travelers from around the world, produced the Indy Folk Fest, and promoted local arts, entertainment and business within the city.Ā This summer will be another new adventure to add to the list.
Landing an internship can be a stressful process but also extremely fulfilling. Experiential learning during internships will only help future employers further understand your personal ambitions and work ethic. This summer, Iām particularly excited to learn more about Indiana INTERNnet and the core functions of the Indiana Chamber of Commerce within the state. I will be updating and expanding social media communications, enhancing my writing skills with weekly blogs and articles, promoting employer/intern relationships within the state, and working numerous networking events. Iām looking forward to another fabulous summer in Indianapolis!
