Thomas Smith is a senior at Ball State University planning to graduate in December 2016.

Indiana INTERNnet: Why did you pursue the construction industry for a career?

Thomas Smith: I think it is awesome how a facility can go from someone’s thought on paper to a life-size, fully-functional building.

IIN: We understand you ran a few bids during your internship. How was that experience, and how did you manage the stress of that project?

TS: It was a great experience and one that I know I will use again. As for the stress, I just had to keep myself calm and get the job done. As I ran more and more, I became more comfortable with the process.

IIN: Why did you enjoy working for RL TurnerĀ Corporation?

TS: RL Turner did not shy me away from anything. They were willing to let me sit in on any meeting or partake in any task they had at hand. This really taught me a lot and gave me skills I will use for the rest of my career.

Ā IIN: What are your future career plans and goals?

TS: I plan on graduating BSU and becoming a project manager. I hope to one day be an executive at a construction firm, helping the rest of the company impact different communities and keep many people employed.
