Many students have the same goal, to obtain full-time employment following an internship — whether that be transitioning from intern to employee with the same organization, or bringing their experience to another organization. In my case, it was a modified version of transitioning from intern to employee.
In January, I started my first college internship as a marketing intern with Indiana INTERNnet. The next few months I learned about the marvels of internships, while gaining first-hand knowledge and experience. As the end of spring semester approached, I was offered the opportunity of interning for the summer. I decided to decline the offer and explore full-time employment opportunities elsewhere. Little did I know, opportunity would soon knock again from Indiana INTERNnet.
Once my internship ended in May, the search for a full-time career was in full swing. Let me tell you, it is tough out there for a recent graduate. In two months I sent over 30 applications and had interviewed with no less than 10 organizations. The biggest issue was I lacked the required level of experience. My background consisted of an internship, a bachelorās degree and a few years of customer service experience. If you read my farewell blog, you already know how much I regret not participating in more internships during my college career. Again, please learn from my mistakes.
My luck had finally changed when the programs assistant position at Indiana INTERNnet opened. After applying and interviewing, I was offered the job. Obviously, I said yes to the job offer! Iām delighted to continue learning and growing with this organization. I hope students will use my advice and prepare their own paths to success.
