Sarah Post: Making an IMPACT

Indiana INTERNnet celebrated internship excellence on Feb. 3, 2016, at the 10th Annual IMPACT Awards luncheon. Though the event is over and the winners have been announced, we are continuing to celebrate the nominees’ successes.

These are their stories.

Indiana INTERNnet: What are some of the projects you did for the Office of Student Employment?

Sarah Post: I came up with content such as pictures, videos, etc. and posted daily on our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts. I did this mainly to draw attention to our office and get more students to realize there is an office on campus that will help them find part-time work while they’re in college, and also to advertise all the free services that are available to students, such as resume/cover letter building, job searching, mock interviewing, etc. I really loved doing the social media aspect in my internship because I learned more about marketing and what type of content will catch people’s attention. It was also a lot of fun!

IIN: Mentorship is critical for students and young professionals. After you completed the Experience in Professionalism (EIP) program, you served as a mentor to students. Why was this important to you to do?

Post: I was so glad that I took advantage of the program, so I wanted to help spread the word about it and help students get the most out of the program. I really enjoyed being involved, not only as a mentor, but also helping administrate it with Jenna Corcoran. It felt good to be a part of something and know that I helped out with such a successful program.

IIN: Why is networking so important for students?

Post: Networking is important because it will help in the future with finding a good career. I think even when you aren’t in the job market, it’s still good to talk to people and make contacts so later on when you are job searching, it can make it a little easier and less stressful to already have someone that could help you find something.

IIN: You’re working at PERQ full-time now. How are you enjoying that?

Post: I really enjoy my job at PERQ, especially the atmosphere and people I work with. Although PERQ is just a start in my career in the business world, I feel that it has already been beneficial in gaining so many different skills and experience. I feel very lucky to have the job that I do at PERQ especially since I haven’t even graduated yet.
