These are their stories.
Gabriella Moline will be graduating this May from Butler University with a bachelorās in journalism and a minor in digital media production and strategy. Gabriella has interned at The Childrenās Museum of Indianapolis and BLASTmedia. Gabriella is also the winner of the 2019 College Intern of The Year award!
Indiana INTERNnet: When will you be graduating and why did you pursue a degree in journalism with a minor in digital media?
Gabriella Moline: I will be graduating from Butler University this upcoming May. Iāve always loved to write and have a passion for telling stories, which made me pick journalism as my major. As my college career has progressed, Iāve learned that I love to promote organizations and attractions, which is why I added my respective minors. Currently, Iām interning as a public relations intern at BLASTmedia, where Iām enhancing my writing skills in an agency setting.
IIN: Was this your first internship? Why did you choose to complete an internship?
GM: Before my internship at The Childrenās Museum, I had completed two other internships. I knew I wanted to find an experience more geared towards public relations and once I read the posting for the museumās internship program, I knew I had to apply. The mission and values of the museum spoke to me and I loved that it provided me with real-life opportunities to grow. In addition, itās such a fun environment and a place where you look forward going to work each day.
IIN: How would you describe your internship experience?
GM: My internship with The Childrenās Museum was a truly transformative experience. I dove into the world of public relations for a large non-profit and formed a lot of valuable relationships and experiences along the way. During my internship, the museum opened a $38.5 million expansion called The Riley Childrenās Health Sports Legends Experience. I got to be there for the entire process, which was very rewarding. Some of my projects included assisting with familiarization visits, writing promotional articles, and helping with media contacts.
IIN: How many internships have you completed? Could you describe the benefits youāve gained from these experiences?
GM: I have completed five internships. Each one has provided me with different insight into what Iām looking for in a future career and has helped me develop my skills along the way. Iāve learned a lot during my time in the classroom at Butler, but my internships have refined and developed my knowledge in a professional setting. Theyāve also provided me with incredible mentors, who I stay in touch with even after the internships have ended.
IIN: Has your nomination for IMPACT Awards impacted your life?
GM: The IMPACT Award nomination has created a really positive impact on my life. Itās made me reflect back on the importance of my internships and everything Iāve learned along the way. The awards banquet also brought together all my mentors and supporters in the same room, which was a poignant and impactful experience for me.
