Indiana INTERNnet celebrated internship excellence on Feb. 3, 2016, at the 10th Annual IMPACT Awards luncheon. Though the event is over and the winners have been announced, we are continuing to celebrate the nomineesâ successes.
These are their stories.
Angelique Cassell is a recent graduate of Calumet College of St. Joseph.
Indiana INTERNnet: How did you become interested in banking?
Angelique Cassell: I was first introduce to banking when I volunteered to job shadow at Centier for a school project. I was intrigued to learn that banking is more than just money safekeeping. There I met with the vice president of HR, and she explained how they are very active in the community.
I applied to become an Enterprise Expansion Opportunity Network (EEON) Associate for internships, and when I learned about the opening at REGIONAL Federal Credit Union, I was so excited. Here is a company dedicated to providing great and personal service to its members, and within the organization, individuals dedicate their outside lives to helping the communities they serve. After my visit with Centier, I set a goal to find a career and organization where I can help others, especially in the community where I live.
IIN: We understand you blossomed into a leader on campus, going from a shy freshman to a confident student serving as the president of the campus Society for Human Resources Professionals (SHRM) chapter. Tell us more about your personal and professional growth.
AC: Being a part of EEON, REGIONAL, and joining my school SHRM chapter has increased my confidence in myself. Coming into my senior year, I can honestly say I have become a leader within the school. The acknowledgement and feedback I received from others, especially my peers, was undeniably one of my greatest achievements in higher learning.
IIN: What are your plans post-graduation?
AC: After graduation I plan to work at REGIONAL full-time in the loan department. There I will enhance my skills and knowledge of financial institutions. However I will continue to be a member of Northwest Indiana SHRM, learning more on human resources in the workplace.
