Casey Bauchle: I specialize in cognitive psychology, specifically how people perceive information and how they react to/store it.Ā I chose this field because I have always had a natural tendency to ponder how people think and how they choose to respond in certain situations.

Indiana INTERNnet: What attracted you to intern at netlogx?
Sara Jones: When I started as an intern at netlogx, I did not have a very deep understanding of netlogx services, but I did know that netlogx was a growing small business with a great culture, which really appealed to me.

Calling all internship success stories
The tenth timeās a charm!
Indiana INTERNnet began the tradition of celebrating internship excellence nearly a decade ago by launching the annual IMPACT Awards program.
Today, the IMPACT Awards are presented at an annual luncheon honoring Interns of the Year (high school, college and non-traditional categories), Employers of the Year (for-profit and not-for-profit categories) and a Career Development Professional of the Year. Indiana INTERNnet will honor its tenth group of award nominees and winners on Feb. 3, 2016. Co-founder and CMO Angie Hicks of Angieās List will be the keynote speaker.
Honorees are nominated by the public, and winners are chosen by a panel of impartial judges. Click here to submit your nomination(s) in any or all of the categories by October 23.

Intern-to-Hire Calls Indy āHomeā
The journey Alex Eaton embarked on afterĀ his sophomore year has come full circle.
A recent Indiana University graduate, Eaton, utilized Indiana INTERNnet to apply for an internship position at Pete the Planner, a small financial wellness company based in Indianapolis founded by Peter Dunn. Dunn is an author, radio personality and financial expert.
Now, Eaton has transitioned into his new full-time role as the Director of eLearning at Pete the Planner.
While his job involves marketing Pete the Plannerās online platforms, he wears many hats during the day.
āIām reaching out to a perspective client and starting the sales process, Iām running the actual product demos all the way to helping sign them on as clients, and Iām working with them once they are clients to make sure everything is working,ā Eaton explains.

Holly Hopkins: The first article I wrote for the magazine is the one that always comes to mind titled, Show Gilt to Sow. I think a lot of it being my favorite has to do with the fact that I remember brainstorming the idea with the team, putting together my source contact list and even shooting the photos at the farm of one of our breeders. Indiana INTERNnet: What do you love about sales and marketing?
Josh Valadez: I enjoy being involved in the company and knowing my role is part of a larger purpose. I am also a very talkative person, which being in sales allows me to talk without getting in trouble most of the time. I am a very creative person, and being in marketing empowers me to make my own decisions. IIN: Tell me about your academic path and how some of your other internships supplemented that.
MU: I majored in Classical Studies with the intention of being a foreign languageĀ teacher. But, as college set in and I started thinking about career paths, I realized how competitive Classical Studies can be. So, I thought about other opportunities that would be impactful on people lives.
I realized financial services is something almost everyone needs guidance with. I was hired for the Northwestern Mutual summer program selling life, property and casualty insurance. I utterly failed at this; I’m not a very good salesman.

Indiana INTERNnet: You are a sophomore at IU Bloomington majoring in neuroscience and biology. What prompted you to take an internship in the insurance field?
Meredith Gentry: Internships are an essential part of exploring career opportunities and preparing for life after college. I wanted to get a feel for going to work every day, reporting to a supervisor, and collaborating with coworkers. I became aware of the internship openings at Baldwin & Lyons through some friends, who had just as positive experiences as I did.

IIN: You were the first junior to serve as the Career Center for Opportunities (CCO) Ambassador Coordinator Intern. Tell us about your responsibilities in that role and what it meant to be trusted with that as a junior?
EL: As the Ambassador Coordinator Intern, I helped manage 12 student ambassadors to ensure proper training, growth and performance while they supported the Purdue student body with professional development. This included the planning of a two-day onboarding session, bi-weekly training sessions, schedule creation and monitoring, evaluations and goal setting, as well as project management.

IIN: You were a long-time intern with Modern Woodmen of America and worked your way up to a full-time position. Can you tell me more about your career path so far and how the internship helped you get to this point?
LH: I interned with Modern Woodmen in Greenwood during the spring of my junior year in 2013. Then, I interned in a Modern Woodmen branch in the Chicago area during the summer of 2013. My senior year, I worked at a local bank. Then, I decided to go back to Modern Woodmen full-time after graduation.

IIN: You read prints, studied parts and worked with operators to optimize the designs for production gauges and minimize costs. How was this experience?
BB: It was a great experience. At one point, we were having a significant amount of nonconforming parts, and I was asked to investigate and see if I could determine the source of the nonconforming pieces. I took multiple measurements and tracked an entire batch of parts through their production process. I recorded all dimensions and checked each piece with its go-nogo gauge. I noticed that in several instances, the results of the measurements would be within specification, but would fail the go-nogo gauge.

IIN: Your nominator wrote that you āworked to create new training and development opportunitiesā for employees at Johnson Controls. Thatās a great experience for an intern!
AB: What I did was create a deck to teach employees about the hiring process at Johnson Controls. There was nothing set up for this and managers were very unsure about the steps they needed to take. There were often many people in the HR office asking questions about next steps. After creating this deck, it was presented and implemented to the automotive interiors division.

Internship fosters unexpected career interest

The second semester of my senior year at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College I interned at Providence Health Care in Terre Haute, Ind. Providence Health Care is a skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility helping the Sisters of Providence and people in the surrounding community.
For the semester I interned under the director of health information. This was a very nerve-racking experience at first; I knew nothing about health care since I was a Business Administration major. In this internship I worked side-by-side with my site supervisor, and she helped me learn a large part of medical records and health information at a skilled nursing facility. I assisted her in daily tasks, including filing paper work, auditing charts, opening and closing charts for patients entering and leaving the facility, and …

Marais Jacon-Duffy graduated from Butler University in Dec. 2014 with a degree in journalism and political science. She is the social media and technology intern with the Indiana House Republican Caucus. In this role, she assists in monitoring and managing caucus social media accounts, creating content, takes photos, videos, and writes press releases.
