Q&A With New Board President Lori Danielson
Indiana INTERNnet recently appointed Lori Danielson of Terre Haute-based GoTime Coaching as the new president of its board of directors. I sat down with Danielson to discuss her role and goals for the future.
Caitlyn Beck: Tell me a bit about who you are and what you do.
Lori Danielson: I started a small consulting practice, GoTime Coaching, about five years ago. My career has been built in the business world â marketing, finance and manufacturing. I really wanted to do something that would have a greater one-on-one impact with individuals and businesses. Iâve had a lot of fun. A lot of learning in the past five years.
CB: Was there something in particular that motivated you toward wanting to make an individual impact or has that always been a goal of yours?
LD: It was a combination of wanting a one-on-one impact, but also having more control over my …

One thing that’s typically neglected in resolutions is your professional growth, especially if you’re a college student/young professional. Here are some resolutions you should make for 2020!
Keep an active LinkedIn profile.
It’s easy to neglect using LinkedIn. But you don’t need to use LinkedIn as often as you use Twitter or Instagram. Make a resolution to keep an active LinkedIn , but be specific about it! Aim to engage with two posts on LinkedIn each week, or make one new connection a month. While you may not think LinkedIn is worth your time, it’s still the main social network for professionals. Make sure your profile is up to date, and that you take time to fill …

Finals Week Told by Rachel Green Gifs
Most students are finishing up finals and ready for a month full of sleeping, eating, and more sleeping. What better way to reflect on the emotional roller coaster that is finals week than to see it told by my favorite Friends character, Rachel Green?
When you’re studying all night and know the answer to everything this course could possibly throw at you, but you come across something the professor never mentioned.
When your friends ask how much youâve studied for your next final.
That feeling when you know you’ll be sleeping a maximum of 4 hours and running on coffee for a week.
Turning in your final to the professor knowing that you didn’t study hard enough but tried your best.
When it finally hits you that you’re done and ready for the long break ahead of you.
When you …
Tips for Surviving Finals Week
For many students, finals week is either here or rapidly approaching. It’s easy to get stressed and overwhelmed with finals. You have an entire semester’s worth of work coming together into one exam or project. No pressure, right? But don’t worry. You can handle it! Here are a few tips for surviving finals week.
Study Groups
It might sound obvious, but utilizing study groups can really benefit you! It gives you the opportunity to go over concepts you may not understand. It’s always helpful to have a few other people around so you don’t feel isolated. But make sure you’re contributing to the group as well. You don’t want to show up without knowing anything and just use your fellow classmates for their knowledge. That just makes them resent you. A great way to participate in a study group is by pretending to teach concepts from the class. It helps …

A couple weeks ago I curated a list that was perfect for the fall/spooky time but now it is time for winter/snowy season
Christmas at the Zoo – Indianapolis, IN
Christmas at the Zoo is a classic for the holidays. Lights, hot cocoa and cute animals make for the perfect night out with friends or family. While there are some inside portions be prepared to be outside for most of the evening. The lights are stunning and offer a ton of great places to take pictures.
Light Displays – All Over Indiana
Another great option to experience lights is Winterlights at Newfields. Take a stroll through the thousands of lights and …
What We’re Thankful For
Since Thanksgiving is almost here, the Indiana INTERNnet team thinks on what they’re grateful for.
Kayla Walke, Intern: I am thankful for everyone here at Indiana INTERNnet. This has been the best place to start off my professional career. From the people I have met to the opportunities I have been exposed to, I am so incredibly grateful for this opportunity to be able to grow and learn in such an amazing atmosphere. To everyone at the Chamber and the whole INTERNnet team, thank you for the constant support, advice, and kindness throughout these past couple of months. From board meetings to events, I have been able to learn so much knowledge that is not taught in the classroom.
Angela Taylor, Program Assistant: Iâm thankful this year was full of change, good and bad, because with change comes growth. I love working with a team of fun, food-centric people. My …

Self-Care for the end of the Semester
Right now, life is basically the prime example of âtoo much to do and not enough time to do it.â Classes are getting ready for finals, projects are due, and life has to fit somewhere in there. Not to make this all about me, but Iâm working a job on-campus, interning downtown, taking 18 credit hours, and planning a whole university formal, so things are pretty tough right now. I know I canât be the only one dealing with a lot, so I came up with a list of things to do that help me relax or calm down when Iâm stressed. I should mention that these are things most people donât think of or at least talk about so you can get some new self-care tips!
Spend the whole day doing nothing
Sometimes when things get really hectic, I like to plan at least one day during the weekend …
Financial Responsibility Advice
I started working basically as soon as I turned 15. While it was at a tiny pizza shop in my hometown, it was still exciting to know that after two weeks I would have my very own paycheck that was my hard-earned money. As I got older and got better jobs, I started getting paid more and then it hit me: I wasnât really paying attention to how much I was spending or where my money was going. Here is where your favorite intern (me) comes in with a solution to the problem. I created a list of helpful tips to think about and remember as you start navigating the adult world when it comes to financial responsibility.
Utilize electronic banking apps
Luckily, we live in a world where almost everything is electronic. Use this to your advantage to get the app for your personal bank. This way you can …
How to Handle Being Late to an Interview
Not everything always goes as planned. When it comes to interviews everyone always puts the emphasis on how you need to be on time and the importance of showing up in the right outfit with the right attitude. Unfortunately, life happens. Whether it’s that you wake up sick or your car doesnât start, things come up that could hinder getting to or even showing up to your interview. Like I have mentioned before, these blogs are here to help interns everywhere succeed throughout their professional career. While I would always want everything to go perfectly, that is just not how it happens.
Relax
The first thing you need to remember is that you arenât the first person to have to miss an interview or show up late. Just relax and know that most of the time the people you are interviewing with will be flexible as long as you are …
Beyond the IMPACT: Salvador Espinoza
In today’s blog post, Indiana INTERNnet intern Kayla Walke interviews Salvador Espinoza. Salvador was the winner of the 2016 High School Intern of the Year IMPACT Award, and has been nominated for College Intern of the Year multiple times.
Indiana INTERNnet: What are some of the best lessons you learned while interning?
Salvador Espinoza: I think the best lesson I ever learned was to never underestimate the power of an internship. I was 16 years old when I got into my first internship and it was for a manufacturing company. That already doesn’t sound appealing to most teens trying to make a quick buck over the summer, but it sounded like a great opportunity and it ended up being one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I was an intern for the same company for 6 years and learned so many things. I learned about marketing, human resources, what …
How to Succeed in a Phone Interview
Last week I gave the best advice I had for an in-person interview. If you missed it or need a refresher you can read it here. While I know that not everyone will have to experience a phone interview, they are becoming more popular and I want to make sure that if you have one, you’re as prepared as possible.
Preparation
Just because you arenât going into an office doesn’t mean that you can just go into it without any preparation. Like any interview, you should be researching the company and starting to get familiar with what the company does, who works for the company, and who is going to be interviewing you. Knowing some of these key elements and mentioning them in your interview could really set you apart from other candidates. You can even use being in a remote location to your advantage and keep a page of …
Beyond the Impact: Gabriella Blauert
Gabriella (Moline) Blauert graduated from Butler University in May with a degree in journalism and moved to Columbus, Ohio. Sheâs currently working as the Marketing and Communications Coordinator at Pelotonia, a non-profit organization in Columbus whose proceeds go toward cancer research.
Indiana INTERNnet: What are some of the best lessons you learned while interning?
Gabriella Blauert: My internships provided me with opportunities to practically apply the skills I learned in class. I learned how to utilize these skills, while also managing my time effectively. Another important lesson I learned was how to interact in different job settings and how to present myself in a professional way in each one.
IIN: What advice do you have for current interns?
GB: I would tell current interns to not be afraid to go to their supervisor or mentor with big ideas or questions they have. One of the most important …
