Intern-to-Hire: Madison Stis

Madison Stis was nominated for the 2017 IMPACT Awards for her outstanding work at her internship with the Indiana State Fair Commission. After her Employment Office internship, she was hired as a full-time assistant manager of human resources. Stis graduated from Indiana University with a major in health administration and a minor in human resource management.

Indiana INTERNnet: Describe your internship with The Indiana State Fair (ISF). What was the most valuable experience?

Madison Stis: My internship at the ISF was the best experience I could’ve had. I was shown major aspects of human resources in a very short time period and received excellent hands-on experience. Mark Anderson, the director of human resources at the ISF, really helped me grow and realize human resources was the field I wanted to pursue. The most valuable experience I had at the ISF was the ability to hire and schedule the employees …

These are their stories.

Dominic Vargas is a sophomore at Purdue University, graduating in May 2019 with a bachelor’s degree in finance with a concentration in management information systems. He interned with Purdue University Center for Career Opportunities as an information desk assistant.

Indiana INTERNnet: How did you become interested in finance?

Dominic Vargas: I became interested in finance, because I always seemed to have an entrepreneurial mindset and a desire to one day start my own business. Finance to me was a great path of study to take in order to gain important knowledge about maintaining and growing a business.

Hattie Hynes is a Recruiting/HR Marketing Intern with Milliner & Associates. She will graduate from the Indiana University Kelley School of Business in 2018.

I had the opportunity to attend Indiana INTERNnet’s IMPACT Awards this past week. It was a little crazy, because I was the only person in the room that I knew. Nonetheless I jumped right in, headfirst. I went to my assigned seat and starting talking to the people at my table.

The IMPACT Awards are given to employers, career development professionals, and interns who have gone above and beyond their call of duty. For employers, an IMPACT Award means that you’ve developed a good program that focuses on teaching interns valuable skills for their future in the workplace. For interns, an IMPACT Award means you went above and beyond the expectations that were set in front of you through your internship. As a career development professional, an IMPACT …

Following his data governance internship, he was hired as a full-time data governance business analyst. He is a 2016 graduate of University of Indianapolis, double majoring in information systems and applied business analytics and operations and supply chain management.

Indiana INTERNnet: How did you become interested in data governance?

Ahmed Almahdi: My interest in data governance started with my internship at Baldwin and Lyons. Even though the day-to-day activities of data governance are familiar, from an academic standpoint in my field of study, the concept of data governance is relatively new in the world of information technology. When I was contacted for the internship, I did not have a solid idea of what data governance is or what it does. Furthermore, I was contacted by Baldwin and Lyons before the position was …
