Career Advice From The Program Coordinator of The Wellness Council at The Indiana Chamber of Commerce
Earlier this week we had the opportunity to interview a current employee of the Indiana Chamber of Commerce. Christina Stafford is the Program Coordinator of the Wellness Council, a subsidiary of the Indiana Chamber of Commerce. We asked her about her internship experience and how it helped her prepare for her professional career. She started out as intern for the Wellness Council and received a full-time job offer after graduation!
Indiana INTERNnet: What is your current position and what do you do?
Christina Stafford: I currently serve as the program coordinator for the Wellness Council of Indiana (WCI). We are a subsidiary of the Indiana Chamber of Commerce. My role at the WCI has evolved over the years, but my current responsibilities include member recruitment and retention (since we are membership-based organization.) Indiana INTERNnet:Ā What is your current position and what do you do?

Matt Ottinger:Ā Iām currently the Manager of Membership Development and Iām in charge of finding new members that we can offer our service to. I find and research potential companies to contact through various methods such as events and conferences, Chamber programs and news. I have been with the Chamber since 2007 and started out in communications and publications.

The chicly-dressed new program manager at Indiana INTERNnet might not look like it, but Ann Mears is a born and raised farm girl. Hailing from Delphi, Indiana, Ann grew up on a small cattle farm just east of town. When she was old enough to gather eggs from the chickens, she quickly found a way to make a return on her investment in this least-liked chore by selling the eggs to her grandparents and neighbors.
When it came to deciding on a major at Purdue University, Ann started out in Agricultural Economics, but quickly realized that her calling was in Hospitality and Tourism Management. To solidify her choice of studies, she dived into multiple internships throughout her college career.

Indiana Chamber Launches Higher Education Web Site

For all career services professionals ā today, the Indiana Chamber launched a new web site, Achieve Indiana, focused on higher education in Indiana:
The Indiana Chamber of Commerce seeks to advance policy innovation and change in higher education finance, management and instructional delivery to substantially increase the number of students who complete postsecondary education. Currently, the Indiana Chamber is leading Indianaās participation in the Lumina Productivity Initiative, a national program aimed at increasing the percentage of college graduates in the U.S. from 40% to 60% by 2025. The Indiana initiative, funded by the Lumina Foundation for Education and conducted in partnership with the Indiana Commission for Higher Education and the Governorās Office, is focused specifically on performance-based funding, engagement of university trustees and productivity of regional campuses.
