Top 5 Interview Horrors
Itâs that time of year again. Leaves are starting to fall and thereâs a cold bite in the morning air. The sunny days are dwindling as our nights get longer and darker. While your friends are looking for a costume of Harley Quinn and that girl from Stranger Things (whereâs my Eggo?), you are spending Halloween alone at home preparing for a job interview. What a terrifying sight! But donât you fear, weâve mapped out the top five interview horrors to avoid and come out of the interview alive (and employed)!
1. Surely you thought making a pit stop at McDonalds before your interview was a great idea, but now your pressed shirt is covered in ketchup. Or is that blood?
2. You got lost in the company building and canât find where youâre supposed to go. The email said room 666 in Building B, but youâre only seeing rooms …
Avoid âspookyâ behavior in the workplace
As you know, this time of year brings the chance to transform into someone or something else. To maintain course on the education and career front, however, there are some âspookyâ behaviors that do not translate well in the workplace.
Youâve nailed the interview and landed the internship that will be vital to your education and future career. Now, itâs time to avoid turning the opportunity into a horror story. Based on Universal Studiosâ classic monsters, these are the kinds of interns you donât want to be.
The Invisible Man intern: Being present is not enough. While on the job, strive to impress. One way to do this is by not displaying the bad temperament of the H. G. Wells character. The Frankenstein …

“Itâs not technically the most wonderful time of the year…”
It doesnât need a shiny wrapper or a fancy commercial because IINâs most decadent treat is just that deliciously designed. Youâre probably familiar with the former state work-study program. As of the summer of 2013, a new recipe has spiced things up for both students and employers: the Employment Aid Readiness Network program (or EARN for short). With EARN, eligible students have access to resume-building, experiential, paid internships, while employers receive state matching funds in exchange for hiring these …
Avoid âscaryâ intern personas
Happy Halloween! Though your internship supervisor is likely expecting (and maybe even looking forward to) frights and scary surprises tomorrow, you donât want to be one of them in the workplace.
Make sure your Halloween costume doesnât symbolize your internship persona! Here are some scary internship characteristics to avoid:
The Werewolf Intern: An employerâs nightmare! This intern looks fantastic on paper and interviews extremely well. He or she promises a great work ethic and the ability to help implement improvements within the organization. But when the full moon rises⊠or rather, when the intern is hired, he or she morphs into something unexpected and undesirable. Make sure you live up to what you advertise on your rĂ©sumĂ© and in your interview.
The Frankenstein Intern:Â An intern who may act like they were born yesterday (eek!). You are smart, creative and accomplished for someone your age; thatâs why an employer tapped …
