Summer Internship to Offer Experience, Adventure
Summer is finally here!
For students, this time of year calls for vacations, sun burn and poolside fun, not to mention a luxurious break from classrooms and exams.
Summertime is also the perfect time to dive into the workforce and build professional and personal skills. This summer, I chose to pursue a marketing internship with Indiana INTERNnet. I recently graduated from The Media School at Indiana University with a Bachelorās degree in Telecommunications. With the help of IUās amazing career services, every summer since I was a freshman IĀ have beenĀ fortunate to have internships in Indianapolis with some great employers.
Throughout my collegiate experience at IU, I used every summer to my advantage. I was a summer camp counselor as a freshman, an intern at the Indy Hostel as a sophomore and a marketing and promotions intern forĀ Do317 as a junior. Even though some opportunities might not have been the most …
Meet Our New Program Manager
The chicly-dressed new program manager at Indiana INTERNnet might not look like it, but Ann Mears is a born and raised farm girl. Hailing from Delphi, Indiana, Ann grew up on a small cattle farm just east of town. When she was old enough to gather eggs from the chickens, she quickly found a way to make a return on her investment in this least-liked chore by selling the eggs to her grandparents and neighbors.
When it came to deciding on a major at Purdue University, Ann started out in Agricultural Economics, but quickly realized that her calling was in Hospitality and Tourism Management. To solidify her choice of studies, she dived into multiple internships throughout her college career.
Annās internship experience began with Indiana Packers Corporation, where she excelled at her human resources internship and eventually became the intern to the executive assistant. As the events intern with the …
3 Lessons Learned from the Company’s Baseball Outing
Just when I thought my internship with Indiana INTERNnet could not get any more exciting after our staff luncheon at Dickās Last Resort, the Indiana Chamber of Commerce treated the entire staff to an Indianapolis Indians Baseball game right around the corner at Victory Field. I hurried to wrap up my work for the day before the noon hour. The air in the office was electrified with excitement and the prospect of socializing. The air outside, however, was humid and warm.
After taking my seat alongside my chamber-mates, I thought back to the last time I was at Victory Field. It must have been back in 2010 while I was interning with the Human Resources Department at OneAmerica. The JW Marriott had not graced the panorama of Indy yet.Ā And, I was ready for my first-ever baseball game. My boss at the time bought me a foam finger and …
15 Tips to Avoid the Intern 15 [Infographic]
You know how the people in the Disney-Pixar movie, Walle, look? That is how I feel after a couple of hours of sitting at my desk at work. Some days, it feels like the legend of the Freshmen 15 has come back to haunt me ā not that I gained all 15 pounds in college, but you get what I mean.
As any health conscious intern, I began to collect some tips on ways to maintain wellness while at work. Then, I realized the IndianaĀ Chamber of Commerce has among its programs a state-wide Wellness Council. Hence, I went directly to the experts to help me compile a list of time-tested tips. Within five minutes of chatting with Adrienne Luegers, theĀ ProgramĀ Coordinator, I came to realize there is more to wellness than just the physical aspect.
Not only did Adrienne shed a brighter light on wellness in the workplace, but also …

Making the (Regional) Connection
This blog was originally posted at Building a Better Indiana.
Itās time to tune into GLE! Not āGlee,ā the pop culture phenomenon about a high school show choir. Iām referring to GLE, which stands for Get Linked Expo, a regional event bringing together business leaders from six Central Indiana counties: Delaware, Hamilton, Hancock, Henry, Madison and Marion.
GLE is all about one thing: connections. It will promote networking among participants (more than 1,000 people are expected to attend) and vendors (over 100 will showcase their products and services). Industries represented include technology, business services and economic development.
The Indiana Chamber is among Hoosier organizations partnering on the event. Individuals can attend for free by registering in advance. GLE will take place on November 4 at Hoosier Park Racing and Casino in Anderson from 3-7 p.m., followed by an after-hours mixer.
Take advantage of this opportunity to reach out to ā …
Keep Your Eyes Wide Open During Your Internship
Entry by Anastasiya Elaeva, Indiana INTERNnet Intern
The fun part of interning is that you never know what events you will have a chance to attend and what people you will get an opportunity to meet.Ā If you keep your eyes wide open, your internship can extend beyond your primary responsibilities and the department to which you are assigned.
After my Washington D.C. internship in international affairs did not work out because of differences in mine and the companyās schedules, I was desperately looking for something in Indiana.Ā I picked up the phone and called the Indiana Chamber of Commerce. To be honest, at that point of time, in mid-May, I did not expect that there would be anything available.Ā I picked up the phone because I thought that trying every single opportunity would be the right thing to do.
To my surprise, I was offered an exciting internship assisting …
