How to Fight Burnout
The weather outside seems to be consistently cold, and not in a cute, Instagram-worthy seasonal kind of way. Thereâs been rain, and lots of gray skies. If youâre a student, youâre in the midst of a heavy workload. If youâre working, daylight hours are decreasing, and youâre probably waking up when itâs dark, and heading home when itâs nearing sunset. Everyone is likely feeling the effects of burnout, a state of physical or mental exhaustion after prolonged exposure to similar stressors. Hereâs how to fight it.

If youâre anything like me, then this is a typical day in your life. Letâs face it â every day we encounter choices in our lives. From the time we wake up to the time we go to sleep, weâve already made hundreds of decisions throughout the day. Some are conscious and intentional, like choosing outfits, deciding what to eat and when to walk the dog. Other decisions are made subconsciously and automatic, much like how our brain solves problems and processes memories from the day during our sleep and dream cycles. …
The 3 R’s of motivation
By now, the shine has worn off of many summer internships. The first week butterflies are gone, and the faces in the office are more familiar than fresh. As the days grow longer and warmer, it is prime time for motivation to wane. However, there are some easy ways to keep enthusiasm and productivity high when dragging yourself out of bed and into the office seems like a chore.
Review your goals: Chances are, you came into your internship with a list of skills you wanted to improve or tasks you wanted to accomplish. Assess how many of those goals youâve reached and what you still need to do to finish the others. This will give you a sense of accomplishment in what youâve done so far while inspiring you to reach for your remaining goals.
