Indiana INTERNnet: Congratulations on winning High School Intern of the Year at our 2020 IMPACT Awards! Now that your internship is over, what are you up to?
Zavion Herron: I am just getting through high school, juggling the many things that are in my life now. The new and expansive career brought from the internship, my after-school activities like Science Olympiad and the Riley High School game club Iâm co-president of along with my friend Parker Dabney, etc.

South Bend Regional Chamber is kicking off their Summer Connect 2019 events on June 5th! Interns can network with other young professionals while learning about the excitement of living in the South Bend region. Indiana INTERNnet: Are you planning to attend college? If so, what school(s) and major/minor are you considering?
Camisa Vines: I plan on attending Purdue University and majoring in computer information technology and/or computer science. I am also considering a minor in Sports Media or some sort of graphic design.
IIN: Describe your internship with South Bend Code School.
CV: Within my internship, I instruct younger students how to build games and websites.

Intern-to-Hire: Ben Gerig
Ben Gerig is a 2015 graduate of the University of Notre Dame and a mechanical engineer at Elkhart Brass Manufacturing Company. He completed several internships with the firefighting and fire protection equipment manufacturing company before being hired full-time upon graduation.
Indiana INTERNnet: What attracted you to intern at Elkhart Brass?
Ben Gerig: My girlfriendâs father at the time (now father-in-law) worked at Elkhart Brass as the Production Control Manager. After my freshman year in college, he offered me a paid internship position with the promise that after interning in his department that year, I would be able to intern in the engineering department the following year.
IIN: What learning experiences and projects did you have during your internships?
Gerig: While interning in Production Control the first year, I learned a great deal about how a company runs and how the different departments within a company interact. My major responsibilities …
