Description

The YMCA of Harrison County is seeking a motivated high school student for an internship in Facilities and Maintenance. This internship offers supervision, training, and mentorship, providing hands-on experience in maintaining and improving YMCA facilities. The intern will assist with a variety of tasks to ensure a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for all members and guests.

The intern will work with the Facilities Director and learn a variety of  building and maintenance tasks and projects related to the several different areas of the building: gynmasium, pool, wellness area, common areas, indoor/outdoor spaces, and outdoor pavilion. 

  • Technical Skills Development:

    • Gain practical experience in facility maintenance, including basic repairs and cleaning techniques.
    • Learn to operate and maintain various tools and equipment safely.
  • Safety and Compliance Understanding:

    • Develop an understanding of safety protocols and the importance of maintaining a safe environment.
    • Learn how to conduct safety inspections and ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Project Management:

    • Participate in and contribute to facility projects, understanding project planning and execution.
    • Develop time management and organizational skills by working on multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Professional Growth:

    • Enhance communication and teamwork skills through interaction with staff and YMCA members.
    • Receive mentorship to set and achieve personal and career-related goals.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  1. Maintenance Tasks:

    • Assist and learn from Facilities Director in daily maintenance of the facility, including common areas, restrooms, gynmasium, wellness space and pool area.
    • Support the Facilities Director in learning to/conducting routine inspections and repairs of equipment and building systems.
    • Learn/help with any necessary building indoor/outdoor tasks.
  2. Safety and Compliance:

    • Learn and adhere to YMCA safety protocols and guidelines.
    • Assist in ensuring all maintenance activities comply with YMCA standards and local regulations.
    • Participate in safety training sessions and drills provided by the Facilities Director.
  3. Project Support:

    • Contribute to special projects such as facility upgrades, renovations, and event setups.
    • Work with Facilities Director to identify and implement improvements to facility operations and maintenance processes.
  4. Additioanl Duties:

    • Learn how to maintain accurate records of maintenance tasks and equipment inspections.
    • Assist in inventory management of maintenance supplies and equipment.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Student with a strong interest in facilities management and maintenance.
  • Ability to commit to the internship schedule and responsibilities.
  • Willingness to learn and take initiative.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks and work in various weather conditions.
  • Experience and/or strong interest to learn hands-on projects related with skills in mechanical and technical duties. 
  • Follows instructions well, excellent communication and time management skills.
