Description

The Marketing Graphic Design Intern will be responsible for designing and producing a broad range of marketing materials including, but not limited to: signs, banners, flyers, brochures, postcards, invitations, and booklets. A major focus of this role will be designing, printing, and physically producing medium - to large-format signage for placement within the museum.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Develops design concepts that effectively communicate the goals and objectives of each project. Projects will include signs, banners, flyers, brochures, postcards, invitations, booklets, etc. that support marketing campaigns for exhibits, events, special initiatives, and museum operations.
  2. Performs retouch and manipulation of photos and other graphical elements.
  3. Creates materials that are consistent with the museum’s brand standards and provides meticulous attention to detail to ensure excellence in design and continuity.
  4. Prepares and submits materials for client approval utilizing in-house computerized job tracking software (a.k.a. RoboHead).
  5. Manages multiple projects to meet timelines and intended objectives, all within quality standards and budget guidelines.
  6. Ensures that all assets are organized and that master electronic asset libraries are up-to-date for easy reference by others within the creative team.
  7. Collaborate with the in-house print center to ensure the quality of higher-volume prints like fliers and postcards.
  8. Produce medium- and large-format signage. This process includes operating an in-house large format printer, accurately trimming prints to size by hand with a knife, mounting printed materials, and when necessary, participating in installation of work within the museum. 

Qualifications

  1. Jr. or Sr. standing pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, Graphics Art Management, or Digital Media.
  2. Strong physical production skills, specifically hand trimming with a knife and mounting medium- to large-format prints.
  3. Intermediate (or better) experience designing in Adobe Illustrator and InDesign. Adobe Photoshop experience is a plus.
  4. Must be able to work a consistent schedule on-location at the museum within normal working hours (Monday–Friday, 9 am–5 pm).

ADA REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Must be able to view computer monitor and communicate in small and large group settings. Must be able to interpret design plans. 
  2. Must be able to use keyboard to draft and review documents and manipulate graphic elements.  Must be able to navigate local and regional ground and air travel.
  3. Requires the ability to sit and/or stand for long periods of time while traversing and viewing exhibitions and sites. 
  4. Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs and tolerate dust in the environment.
  5. Must be able to visually perceive space and colors and to make visual assessments to produce drawings, documents, and designs.
