Description

The Summer AV Intern will assist the Technical Director of Events and Campus Services in managing and supporting any audio-visual (AV) needs for various campus events and rentals during the summer. This is a hands-on opportunity for students to gain practical experience in the AV field under the guidance of the Technical Director of Events and Campus Services, including setting up and operating AV equipment, troubleshooting technical issues, and completing summer maintenance projects such as updating firmware on AV equipment, managing e-waste, and creating an inventory of equipment. The intern will have the chance to work with industry-standard equipment and gain valuable insight into the production and technical sides of AV services.

Responsibilities

  • On-site, learn and become familiar with AV software and systems used by the department to perform the following tasks.
  • Assist in setting up, operating, and troubleshooting AV equipment, including microphones, projectors, screens, cameras, and sound systems for events and meetings.
  • Provide on-site support for live events, ensuring smooth execution of AV components.
  • Create a database of video projects and files before uploading to cloud storage.
  • Help maintain and organize AV equipment inventory, ensuring all equipment is in good working condition.
  • Perform software and firmware updates on various AV and AV-related equipment.
  • Support the creation of multimedia content (audio, video, or images) for use in presentations or events.
  • Participate in various summer projects as assigned by the CIO.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled as a college student, preferably in a field related to Communications, Media Studies, Film Production, Theatre, or a similar discipline.
  • A strong interest in audio-visual technology and event production.
  • Basic knowledge of AV equipment (microphones, projectors, soundboards, cameras) is preferred but not required. This is an entry-level position.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot technical issues.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work solo as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Must be able to lift and carry equipment (up to 35 pounds) as needed.
  • Must be able to climb ladders and stairs, bend, crouch, push, pull, and reach overhead.
  • Willingness to learn new technologies and tools related to AV.
  • Experience with video editing software (Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve) is a plus.
