Youth Services Summer Intern (College Student)
Description
The library is seeking an assistant to provide support for our busy children's department at the main library through the summer. We are looking for someone with good customer service skills who also pays attention to details. The library assistant will assist in preparation for multiple children’s programs each week. The position involves using computers to register patrons for summer programs and to search for and check out library materials. Training will be provided.
Responsibilities
- Assist with the preparation of crafts and other activities
- Assist library staff with programs for youth ages 0-18 years
- Answer directional questions and questions related to the library's summer reading program
- Answer phones and assist patrons with book selections
- Assist patrons and fill information requests using the library's online catalog
Qualifications
- College student
- Some English/Literature courses and customer service experience
- Courses in child development and education or some experience working with youth is preferred
- Courses in computers, online information retrieval and/or familiarity with online catalogs is a plus
