GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Burmese American Community Institute (BACI) is a dynamic, forward-looking, and growing non-profit organization. We seek motivated, enthusiastic, and culturally-sensitive students or recent graduates for our internship program. The Program Intern will gain valuable hands-on experience in community service, program development, and non-profit operations while supporting BACI's mission to empower the Burmese American community. This internship provides an excellent opportunity to develop professional skills while making a meaningful impact.
Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:
- Assists program staff with daily operations and administrative tasks
- Supports client intake processes and basic case management activities under supervision
- Helps organize and facilitate community events, workshops, and training sessions
- Contributes to outreach efforts including material development and distribution
- Assists with data collection, entry, and basic program evaluation tasks
- Researches community resources and creates informational materials for clients
- Helps maintain organized program files and documentation
- Provides general support during client meetings when appropriate
- Assists with social media content creation and community engagement
- Participates in staff meetings and contributes to program discussions
- Supports grant research and basic reporting activities
- Develops and completes an intern project related to BACI's mission and programs
- Maintains confidentiality regarding client information
- Completes weekly activity logs and reflection assignments
- Performs other duties as assigned that support learning objectives
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Detail oriented, able to multitask.
- Self-motivated, able to work in a team and independently.
- Enthusiasm for BACI’s mission and vision.
- Cooperative, friendly, and helpful attitude with clients and co-workers. Ability to work closely with other employees to ensure positive, constructive environment within the Employment and Microenterprise Development team and throughout the Institute.
- Demonstrate high level of professionalism and personal integrity.
- Flexibility and availability, including willingness to travel and work some weekends.
- International experience desirable – high degree of cultural sensitivity and competence required.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and growth-oriented environment, while maintaining a sense of humor and a positive, solution-oriented approach.
- Willing to learn.
- Pass the Background Check.
OTHER SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS:
The successful candidate must be computer literate, with proficiency in MS Office (Excel and Word) and Internet applications.
