Description

The Latino Community Initiatives (LCI) Intern will assist with community engagement activities to support the museum in being a trusted and reliable partner with the Latino Community.   The LCI Intern will assist the larger LCI Leadership team with (preparing meeting materials/attending/note taking etc. for LCI and Cambio meetings as well as organizing and preparing written outreach program materials for translation and documenting process of best practices for working with external translation services.

Responsibilities

  1. Attend LCI Leadership and Core team meetings
  2. Create slide decks and disseminate notes for LCI meetings.
  3. Act as a contact for third-party vendors of Spanish/English translation services.
  4. Document process of utilization of translation services that will ultimately inform future decisions.
  5. Attend school outreach programs to get a better understanding of content delivery methods, tone, and best practices for English/Spanish translation services.
  6. Assist with packaging outreach materials for translation; for example: review all 5 outreach program materials to identify all text that needs to be translated and identify the corresponding digital files; combine text from individual files as needed to create an organized bundle for sending to translation service.
  7. Attend and take notes during listening sessions with school outreach constituents (teachers and/or parents).
  8. Double-check that translated text was entered correctly into new documents after graphic design. Review translated materials for tone, clarity, reading level, accuracy, and flag areas for potential editing and improvement.
  9. Assist with printing new materials and repackaging all outreach program material bins.

Qualifications

  1. Have completed at least one year of college pursuing a degree in nonprofit management, event management, marketing/communications, social work, education, family studies, museum studies, linguistics, psychology, sociology, or a related field
  2. Have good oral and written communication skills.
  3. Have excellent organizational and research skills.
  4. Have web researching skills and a basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  5. Exhibit professional behavior and responsible work ethic
  6. Have excellent customer service skills
  7. Be available to work a minimum of 12 hours per week.
  8. Bilingual (Spanish and English) preferred.   

ADA REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Must be able to perform extensive work in indoor and outdoor environments, to perceive space, to read documents and diagrams, and to view computer monitors.
  2. Must be able to communicate in planning and implementation situations; must have the ability to express presentations of ideas. Team and group dialogue is required for the communication of plans and concepts. 
  3. Must be able to sit, stand, squat, kneel, and lift objects to 30lbs
